A Portland Police Bureau vehicle on Monday, Oct. 8, 2025. Portland Police Bureau officer Jimmy Pryce is accused of strangulation, fourth-degree assault, harassment and menacing.

An off-duty Portland Police Bureau officer was arrested Monday for allegedly assaulting a woman in his home in front of their respective children on Nov. 29.

Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputies charged Jimmy L. Pryce, a 27-year veteran with the Portland police force, with strangulation, fourth-degree assault, harassment and menacing. Strangulation and fourth-degree assault are felony charges.

Pryce was in the Clackamas County Jail roster on Monday morning, but was no longer listed by the afternoon.

Court records say the incident happened “in the immediate presence” of Pryce’s child and stepchild, the woman’s child and stepchild, as well as a fifth child who lives at the house.

As a policy, OPB does not name victims of domestic violence.

Portland police officials announced the arrest in a statement and said Clackamas County deputies had been called to the scene the night the alleged assault happened.

Portland officials learned about it on Dec. 1, they said.

In the bureau’s statement, Chief Bob Day condemned the allegations but discouraged the public from leaping to conclusions.

“We take this extremely seriously,” Day said. “While the involved officer, like any individual, is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, the charges do not reflect the values or expectations of the Portland Police Bureau.”

Portland police officials stated they opened an internal investigation into Pryce and placed him on leave.

A state-run, online database of law enforcement showed Pryce has been on leave since October 2024. Portland police officials did not immediately respond to questions about how that leave intersects with the latest allegations.

According to the transportation-focused news website Bike Portland, Pryce had previously been involved in a November 2008 incident with members of a local cycling club.

The site reported that cyclists took issue with Pryce passing them closely on a narrow street and one cyclist “gestured to Pryce about the near-miss.” Pryce then stopped the cyclists and ticketed them for impeding traffic.

Court records show those citations were dismissed in January 2009.
