A tow truck driver allegedly died by suicide Wednesday after crashing into several vehicles in Vancouver.

According to Vancouver police, the driver, who fled on foot to his apartment nearby, reportedly ran a red light at Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and Southeast 160th Avenue.
The Vancouver Fire Department reported 10 people were taken to the hospital. Three are being treated for serious injuries, one of whom was ejected from their vehicle.
Residents at the suspect’s apartment were told to shelter in place after police learned the suspect may have access to a gun.
Police and SWAT assistance made repeated, unsuccessful attempts to contact the suspect. Using a drone to peer inside the apartment, they saw the suspect on the floor, not moving.
SWAT medics entered around 8 p.m. and found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said the Vancouver Police Department in a press release.
According to VPD, the Clark County Medical Examiner is working to confirm the suspect’s identity and cause of death.
The crash remains under investigation. No additional details have been released.
