Lifesaving Award Presented to Jackson County Jail Deputies This year for National Corrections Officer and Employee Appreciation week we wanted to show our community the important work being done by our Corrections deputies in the Jackson County Jail. This past year, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Corrections deputies responded to more than 30 serious medical events in our Jail. For many of these events deputies were first on scene and provided life-saving care for the Adults-In-Custody (AIC) in the crucial moments before Fire and EMS could arrive. In this video we highlighted one event because the actions of the deputies involved saved the AICs life. Because of these efforts, Sheriff Nate Sickler presented the involved deputies with the JCSO Lifesaving Award during a ceremony in March of this year. On the night of July 25th, 2023, an AIC became unresponsive, stopped breathing, and had no pulse. AICs alerted deputies to the emergency. At 11:17 p.m. Deputy Carpenter arrived on scene, checked the AIC, and called for additional deputies for a possible seizure. Former Deputy Josephson and Deputy Vela arrived, called EMS, and administered NARCAN. The deputies worked together as a team to apply an AED and start lifesaving measures. The AED advised shock and deputies started chest compressions. Deputy Miller arrived and provided rescue breaths. The deputies did CPR for approximately seven minutes and the AIC began breathing on his own. Medford Fire Department and Mercy Flights Inc arrived and took over care before transporting the AIC to a local hospital. That night, the deputies saved the AICs life, and he was sent to prison to be held accountable for his crimes. From Sheriff Sickler to ALL the JCSO Corrections deputies and employees for National Correctional Workers Appreciation Week: “Too often the work done in Corrections goes unnoticed by communities because the majority of it is done within the confines of a secure building. I want you to know our community appreciates you and I appreciate the efforts everyone puts in each day to keep our County safe. Thank you for choosing to serve, thank you for choosing Corrections, and thank you for choosing the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to work. Please be safe!”Lifesaving Award Presented to Jackson County Jail DeputiesWatch video on Facebook.com
