Several area houses of worship had some special guests this past weekend they don’t typically see, at least in uniform! Lane County Sheriff’s deputies joined law enforcement nationwide for National Faith & Blue Weekend.

This year, Sheriff Carl Wilkerson and deputies were invited to @newhope.west to have conversations, build relationships, and (of course) hand out junior deputy stickers! Thanks to everyone who made our staff feel welcome along with first responders from many other agencies.

Faith & Blue was inaugurated in 2020 by MovementForward, Inc., working with the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) at the U.S. Department of Justice to help build neighborhoods where everyone feels safe and included.

Faith-based organizations are key to building these bonds because they are not only the largest community resource in the nation, with 65 million participants in weekly events, but because they are as diverse as our nation.

Want to have your house of worship participate in National Faith & Blue Weekend next year? Contact us at publicinformation@lanecountyor.gov or leave a message at 541-682-4179.Photos from Lane County Sheriff's Office's post Featured News by Lane County Sheriff
Today, the Coos History Museum joins communities across the nation in honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Today we celebrate the strength, culture, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, past, present, and future.

We honor the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, the Coquille Tribe, and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians and their ancestral lands along the Oregon Coast.

We recognize the deep history of stewardship, resilience, and cultural traditions that have shaped this region since time immemorial and continue to do so today. On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and every day, we commit ourselves to learning from, listening to, and uplifting Indigenous voices.

Although we are closed today, we invite our community to visit us tomorrow to view our exhibits, especially those created in collaboration with local tribes.
