Congratulations to our newest graduates from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) Basic Police Academy!   
  
Deputy Mitchell and Deputy Pressly graduated from Basic Police Class BP460 today after 16 weeks of training.    
  
Deputy Mitchell served as the class spokesperson at graduation. Deputy Pressly received the Victor G. Atiyeh Outstanding Student Award, selected by students and staff. The award recognizes exceptional professionalism through an exemplary attitude and outstanding achievement in leadership, academics, health & fitness, and survival skills.   
  
Both deputies served at the jail and on transport prior to this additional training.    
  
From here, they will continue field training on patrol for several more months.   
  
We look forward to your continued service to our community out on the road and beyond!

The Coos Bay - North Bend Water Board will be conducting controlled burning of  
woody debris near the Upper Pony Creek Dam beginning the week of April 27 ,  
2026 and continuing for approximately two weeks.

The burning is part of routine watershed management. During this time, there  
may be periods when smoke is visible in and around the surrounding areas,  
including within city limits.
