-10/22/26 - LCSO Takes Part in National Drug Take Back Day, in Veneta on Saturday 10/24/26 Do you have unwanted or expired medications at your home? We are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to help community members safely dispose of prescription drugs in Veneta this Saturday! Where: Bi-Mart in Veneta, 25126 Jeans Road, Veneta When: Saturday, October 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Acceptable items: Prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, drug samples, pet medications, ointments, lotions, and liquid medicines in glass or leak proof containers. This is a no-questions-asked prescription drug drop off in effort to prevent the unsafe disposal of prescription medications, and to prevent medications from being stolen or abused. Disposing of unused medications by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards. Check your medicine cabinet for prescription drugs that are expired or that you no longer use and bring unwanted, outdated, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications to for safe disposal. We are unable to accept: Needles, thermometers, bloody or infectious waste, medications from businesses, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, inhalers, and diabetic meters. During two events held in 2021, over 918 pounds of medications were turned in by community members to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office for disposal. If you are unable to attend the Drug Take Back Event and you have medications you would like to dispose of, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office has a drug drop box located in the Central Reception lobby in the Lane County Courthouse that is available to accept medications Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, excluding holidays (no appointment necessary). **Local Scam Alert** Our office has received multiple calls from community members reporting scammers pretending to be with our Office, specifically Lieutenant Russell, and claiming they missed jury duty, have an outstanding warrant, or otherwise needed to take immediate action with the caller. Fortunately, these calls felt suspicious, so they hung up and called our office to see if the information was true before giving the caller any information. Scammers try to build trust, offer deals too good to be true, abuse your compassion, or threaten you with legal/financial consequences. If someone is reaching out to you with a situation like those above, get their name, organization information, reason for contacting you and end the communication. Then research the real organization online, from a phone book, or by visiting their office to follow up about the contact. Even if a caller uses a name of a known employee, it is best to follow up with the official agency to verify the contact is actually from the agency BEFORE you provide any information via call, email, or text. Save our contact information listed below so that you can easily verify information with our team directly. Here’s what you should know: ✅ Our office will not call you regarding federal jury duty, local jury duty, etc. ✅ We will not ask for payment over the phone. ✅ Our office and other government agencies will not ask you to pay fines or fees with gift cards, money orders, bitcoin, etc. How do I know if information is really from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office or not? ✅ It comes directly from this account, NOT a third party or a comment from another Facebook user. ✅ It comes from one of our other accounts: Lincoln County Animal Shelter or Lincoln County Oregon Emergency Management ✅ It is on our official website: www.co.lincoln.or.us/sheriff ✅ Our staff can verify the information is true.
