FIVE ARRESTED IN RETAIL THEFT OPERATION On May 30, Hillsboro Police Department partnered with local retailers in the Tanasbourne area for a coordinated retail theft blitz. The operation led to five arrests for offenses including Theft II, Theft III, Delivery of Methamphetamine, Identity Theft, and a Felony Warrant. CRASH LEADS TO DUII ARREST | During the night of June 2, officers responded to several calls about a car crashing through a fence near SE Lois St and SE Imlay Ave. The vehicle had smashed through a backyard fence and hit a utility pole, leaving power lines tangled around it. The driver, Donovan Gallardo (21), was arrested for DUII. He provided a breath sample of 0.15%. We’re thankful no one was hurt in this dangerous incident. Please remember driving under the influence puts everyone at risk. If you see someone you suspect is driving impaired, call 911 immediately.

COMMUNITY TIP LEADS TO DRUG SEIZURE Around midnight on June 2nd, a vigilant community member reported a suspicious vehicle parked near NW 185th Avenue and NW Eider Court. Officers contacted three individuals inside the car. One of them, Benito Escalera (42), was found to have three outstanding warrants for his arrest out of Forest Grove. Further investigation led to the seizure of approximately 12 grams of Fentanyl, dozens of small baggies, and cash. Escalera was arrested for his outstanding warrants and charged with Possession of a Substantial Quantity of Fentanyl. The other two individuals were released without further incident. We thank our officers for their swift action and the community member whose call helped bring this situation to a safe and successful resolution. If you see something suspicious, please don’t hesitate to report it.

They claim you’ve missed jury duty and now have a warrant out for your arrest — unless you pay a fine immediately. THIS IS A SCAM. Remember, we will never call you to demand payment over the phone, and we will never ask for gift cards, wire transfers, or personal banking information. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately. Do not provide personal information. Call non-emergency dispatch to report the scam. ADVOCATE FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE | Hillsboro Police is seeking volunteers from the community to serve on its Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT); providing critical on-scene crisis intervention and meaningful support for victims of domestic violence, stalking and teen dating violence. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW CADETS | Welcome six of our newest Hillsboro Police Cadets. These dedicated and driven young adults devoted every one of their Saturdays for the last 12 weeks to attend the Clackamas County Interagency Cadet Academy. Hillsboro Police Cadets are young adults between the ages of 15 and 20 who are passionate about serving their community. Through volunteer work, the program promotes civic engagement and offers cadets a behind-the-scenes look at how the Police Department operates. Participants gain hands-on experience in a variety of support roles and develop valuable skills in leadership, professionalism, and responsible decision-making. Many cadets go on to careers in law enforcement, while others apply their experience in different fields. We’re now accepting applications for our next group of cadets. Traffic Alert: 2025 Oregon International Air Show Road Closures & Safety Notice | The 2025 Oregon International Air Show is coming to town May 16–18! To ensure the safety of all spectators and community members, a sterile aerobatic box (an area that must remain clear of all people) will be enforced during flight demonstration hours. Airspace Closure (TFR) Times: • Friday, May 16: 11:00 AM – 3:45 PM & 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM • Saturday & Sunday, May 17–18: 11:30 AM – 4:59 PM Road Closure Hours (Sterile Aerobatic Box Area): • Friday, May 16: 11:00 AM – 3:45 PM & 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM • Saturday & Sunday, May 17–18: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM Areas Affected: • NE Brookwood Pkwy: No traffic between NE Airport Rd and NE Cornell Rd during closure times. NE Penny Way & NE “T” Hangars are restricted during closure times. Only Nike and Ochoco tenants with passes may access hangars. Roads to businesses on or west of NE Brookwood Pkwy from NE Dawson Creek to NE Airport Rd are restricted but not fully closed. QORVO’s south entrance on Penny Way will be closed during all sterile area hours. • NE 30th Ave & NE Sewell Rd on NE Evergreen Rd: Restricted to business tenants only. Hillsboro Aviation tenants are cleared to travel to business with the pass. The Hillsboro Airport side of NE Sewell Rd is closed to all traffic. Please refrain from flying drones. Unauthorized drone use violates federal regulations and compromises air safety by disrupting the sterile aerobatic box required for performances. Hit & Run DUII Arrest | On Friday afternoon, May 8, officers responded to a hit and run near NE Wilkins St and NE Amberglen Pkwy. The suspect vehicle was later found parked at an apartment complex nearby. Officer Schmidt and K9 Rayo conducted a track from the vehicle and successfully located the suspect's apartment. The suspect, Jose Siquina-Riscajche (25), provided a breath sample showing 0.16% BAC. He was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver. Thanks to K9 Rayo’s excellent tracking and the swift response by our officers, Rayo achieved his first successful capture.

NEXT YEAR’S HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS | Apply to serve on the Hillsboro Police Community Advisory Group for the 2025/26 school year. The youth selected will be awarded a $2,000 educational scholarship. Every month, the members (both adults & one youth) meet with the Police Chief to exchange ideas and share perspectives on local policing and current events that may impact Hillsboro’s approach, as well as programming, outreach, and messaging.
