STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED; SUSPECT LOCATED AFTER FLEEING ON FOOT A California man was arrested on multiple charges after being found in possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing on foot from officers. The Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) received a report on April 30, 2024, at around 06:08 p.m., that a stolen vehicle had been spotted outside the Southsider Motel, 1005 S Broadway Street in Coos Bay. The caller described the man who was in the stolen vehicle and said the man had broken out a window in an attempt to get some belongings before fleeing into a motel room. CBPD officers arrived and tried to contact the suspect in the room, but he left via a back window on foot, leaving behind a woman. The stolen vehicle, a 2006 Ford F250, was recovered at the scene and was displaying license plates stolen from another vehicle. CBPD officers requested help from CBPD K9 Mika and his partner Officer Smith, the Coos County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), and Drone Team members in searching for the suspect. K9 Mika and his partner responded and tracked the suspect's route to East Lockhart Avenue, about a third of a mile from the Southsider Motel. Officer Smith asked that a CCSO deputy and his K9, who were already on scene with CBPD, help to divide the search area in half. The suspect, 52-year-old Mario Refanan of Sacramento, California, was eventually found at Public Disposal and Recycling, 1210 S Broadway Street, in the area being searched by the CCSO K9. Mr. Refanan was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail on the below-listed charge: • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle The CBPD appreciates the assistance provided by the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indian Police, and members of the Drone Team.

COOS BAY MAN ARRESTED FOR ENGLEWOOD MARKET BURGLARY A Coos Bay man was arrested on multiple charges after he burglarized and stole Oregon Lottery tickets from the Englewood Market. On April 27, 2024, at approximately 02:15 a.m., the Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) received a report of an alarm at Englewood Market, 1434 Southwest Blvd., Coos Bay. When CBPD officers arrived, they found the market's front glass door broken and signs of a burglary. The business owners provided video footage of a man breaking through the glass door and taking property from inside the store. Officers obtained a description of the suspect and specific details about the stolen items from the owners, including many serialized Oregon Lottery tickets. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. Nearby businesses that accept lottery tickets for redemption were contacted and instructed to notify CBPD if anyone tried to cash in an unusual number of lottery tickets. Following the burglary, the CBPD began receiving information and tips on the burglar's identity, mainly due to the videos and images of the suspect circulating on social media. This information included the name of the suspect, who was later confirmed as 34-year-old Brandon Lorenzi of Coos Bay. Mr. Lorenzi was arrested the day after the incident after a citizen recognized him walking in Coos Bay. At the time of his arrest, Mr. Lorenzi was wearing some of the same clothes he had been wearing during the burglary. He also had some of the stolen Oregon Lottery tickets. Mr. Lorenzi was transported to the Coos County Jail and lodged on the below listed charges: • Burglary 2 • Criminal Mischief 1 • Theft 2 • Failure to Register as a Sex OffenderPhotos from Coos Bay Police Department's post

COOS BAY MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG AND WEAPONS CHARGES A Coos Bay man was arrested, and two CBPD search warrants yielded a significant amount of cash, suspected drugs, and firearms. On April 13, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the North Coos 9-1-1 Center (NC911) received a call concerning a man that was sitting inside of a parked, running car in the parking lot of the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon (SWOYA), 3333 Walnut Avenue in Coos Bay. The caller expressed concern about the man's inability to stay awake and suspected drug use. Prior to the arrival of Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) officers, the individual fled his vehicle, leaving behind a bottle of suspected drugs. Officers were able to locate and detain the man, who was identified as 36-year-old Matthew Medeiros of Coos Bay. Officers discovered a taser and a significant amount of cash with Mr. Medeiros, prompting CBPD officers to apply for and carry out a search warrant on his car. The search warrant uncovered suspected methamphetamine, heroin, and four firearms, one of which was stolen. Following the search warrant on the car, officers obtained and executed a search warrant at Mr. Medeiros' home in the 1000 block of Maryland Avenue in Coos Bay. The search warrant resulted in twenty-one firearms, a significant quantity of cash, drugs (suspected fentanyl powder, methamphetamine, and heroin), and suspected and confirmed stolen property. Mr. Medeiros was transported and booked into the Coos County Jail on the following charges: • Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine • Unlawful Possession of Heroin • Unlawful Possession of Fentanyl • Attempted Delivery of Methamphetamine • Attempted Delivery of Heroin • Attempted Delivery of Fentanyl • 25 counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm • Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon • Theft 1 by Receiving The CBPD was aided during this investigation by the Oregon State Police (OSP) and the North Bend Police Department (NBPD).
