Ashwin Sivakumar, who grew up primarily in Beaverton, built on his lifelong love of birds to spur his advanced research at Harvard University. Now he is headed to Cambridge University to get a Ph.D. in evolutionary genetics.

As a child growing up in Beaverton, Ashwin Sivakumar thought of puffins much the way he did penguins and polar bears – as special creatures from the globe’s far reaches that he would never get to see in the wild.
