A suspected World War II-style grenade discovered during a basement cleanup in Bethpage, New York, prompted a response from Nassau County police and the county’s bomb squad. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke, File)

What started as an ordinary cleaning project turned into a bomb squad investigation after a Long Island homeowner uncovered what authorities believe was a World War II-era grenade in her basement. Nassau County police said the discovery was made Wednesday morning at a residence in Bethpage, People reported.
