Description

Lower Manhattan as seen from the Staten Island Ferry in July of 2001.

Twenty-five years ago, I was living in New York City. I’d graduated college the year before and caught the last gasp of the dot-com boom, snagging a video-editing job at a Manhattan toy company that was already on its last legs. That July, my parents came out to visit, and at one point we took a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. The idea was to get a good look at the Statue of Liberty, but the Twin Towers were what dominated the view on the way back.
