Nearly 90 years after Amelia Earhart disappeared during her attempt to fly around the world, Nikumaroro Island remains one of the most closely studied locations in the search for answers. The remote coral atoll, located in the central Pacific Ocean and administered by the island nation of Kiribati, has drawn repeated expeditions from researchers who believe it may hold clues about what happened to the pioneering aviator and her navigator, Fred Noonan, USA TODAY reported.
