Description

Recreational fishing boats anchor below the Abernethy Bridge on Saturday, April 13, 2025, as construction continues on the I-205 crossing between West Linn and Oregon City. The project is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation’s largest construction effort in nearly 50 years and will make the bridge the first earthquake-ready interstate span over the Willamette River in the Portland area.

ODOT’s massive project to make the Abernethy Bridge the Portland area’s first earthquake-ready interstate bridge across the Willamette River is, so far, about a year and a half behind schedule and roughly $177 million over budget.
