FILE - Research shows that the less media freedom a country has, the more likely it is for AI to present that country’s government and institutions positively. An AI chatbot trained on propaganda will spew it.

“Institutional influence” can shape artificial intelligence in authoritarian countries, research from a University of Oregon sociologist has concluded.
