DEQ release - QUICK FACTS: Location: Crook, Jefferson, eastern Umatilla, northern Union, and southern Wasco counties. End date: At least Monday afternoon, Aug. 24, 2026. Smoke sources: Multiple wildfires in Oregon and Washington. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality advisory Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, for Crook, Jefferson, eastern Umatilla, northern Union, and southern Wasco counties due to smoke from multiple fires in Oregon and Washington. DEQ expects the air quality advisory to last until at least Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. DEQ and partner agencies will continue to monitor smoke in the area. DEQ expects intermittent smoke in Baker, Clackamas, Deschutes, Hood River, Wallowa, and northern Wasco counties. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on weather.
