Coos Bay Public Library, 525 Anderson Ave., Coos Bay, OR - Pickup/Drop-off Eastside, Friday, August 21 at the Eastside Fire Station, 365 D Street, Coos Bay, 9:00am – 9:30am.  Return or pick up library materials every Friday in front of the Eastside Fire Department.  Age Bracket: Everyone.  Pickup/Drop-off Empire, Friday, August 21 at the Empire Fire Station, 189 S Wall Street, Coos Bay, 10:00am – 10:30am.  Pickup or drop-off library materials in front of the Empire Fire Station.  Age Bracket: Everyone.  Tween Club, Friday, August 21 in the Myrtlewood Room, 3:00pm – 4:30pm.  Tweens 9-14 are invited to Tween club on the third Friday of every month from 3-4:30 PM for snacks, crafts, and fun. This partnership began a two-year research study to learn the effects of walking as a group and engaging civically to improve public health and walkability in our community. The Sole Mates decided to use funds awarded by OHSU to create a free walking guide to inspire other community members to get outside, walk, and improve their health.  Coos Bay Public Library and the Sole Mates, will co-host Sole Mates’ Community Walk on every fourth Saturday. July walk will be held at John Topits Upper Loop (355 Hull St, Coos Bay).  Entrance sign at John Topits Park in the woods.  Every month, we will meet at the next trail in the Walking Guide. Walks are FREE to join and open to everyone!  Let's walk!  Get a physical copy of the guide at the library or click here to download it.  Age Bracket: Everyone.  Writers Group, Saturday, August 22 in the Cedar Room, 10:00am – 11:00am.  Enjoy some coffee and light snacks while writing.  Writing prompts will be provided for warmups.  Share ideas and get feedback on writing works.  Spend time with like minded individuals working on their writing.  Bring your own works, coffee and snacks will be provided.  Age Bracket: Everyone.  Saturday STEAM - Sun Science: Discover UV Light, Saturday, August 22 in the Myrtlewood Room, 2:30pm – 3:30pm.  Get ready to chase the sunshine on Saturday, August 22!  In this fun, hands-on science workshop, kids will explore the amazing world of ultraviolet (UV) light through colorful experiments and creative activities. Make a UV Kid using special UV beads that change color in the sunlight, then become a sun scientist by testing different materials to see which ones block UV rays best.  Along the way, kids will discover how UV light changes in different conditions and learn easy ways to help protect their skin while enjoying time outside. As time and materials allow, participants may have the opportunity make a UV bead bracelet to take home.  Perfect for curious kids ages 6–12. Registration is required.  Note: Parents -- sign up your kids ages 6-12 and enjoy an hour of browsing at the Blackberry Festival!  Saturday STEAM is a new weekly program for kids and families! STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, but mostly it means having fun while making, building, creating, and exploring together.  Each week features a different hands-on activity. You might try a science experiment, make a craft, solve puzzles, tackle building challenges, build with LEGO® bricks, or play games that get you thinking and creating. Please note: Saturday STEAM will not be offered on Saturdays when the library has other children's or family programs scheduled.  Age Bracket: Kids, Families.  Ongoing Programs:  Plant a Seed, Read, Summer Reading 2026, Monday, June 15 – Monday, August 17.  Get ready for an action-packed summer at the Coos Bay Public Library! From jugglers to hands-on science programs we have something for everyone. Take a look at our complete summer reading calendar for a complete listing of all we're offering this summer.  Be sure and check out this year's Summer Reading Challenge for all ages, in which you can earn special Coos Bay Public Library "dollars" by reading or listening and completing activities. Dollars can be spent or saved for Coos Bay Public Library swag like a frisbee or a t-shirt. The more you do, the higher your chances of winning the grand prize.
