High-Speed Chase, Coos Co.

CCSO release - Date/Time: May 5, 2025, around 6:45 PM; Case #: S202500688; Classification: Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Elude, Reckless Drive, Escape 3; Location: Highway 42 and Highway 101, Coos County; Suspect(s): Paris Rockey (20); Summary: High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest of 20-Year-Old in Coos County. On May 5, 2025, at approximately 6:45 PM, Deputy S. Converse initiated a traffic stop on a silver Acura traveling westbound on Highway 42 near the Coaledo weigh scales. The vehicle had overtaken Deputy Converse at high speed. The driver, later identified as Paris Rockey (20), failed to yield, prompting a pursuit. At the junction of Highways 101 and 42, Sergeant J. Boswell deployed stop sticks, which punctured the Acura’s front driver-side tire. Ms. Rockey continued to evade law enforcement until stopping at the Adult Fun Center in Bunker Hill. Upon stopping, Ms. Rockey exited the vehicle through the driver-side window and attempted to flee on foot. Deputy Converse and Sergeant Henthorn of the Coos Bay Police Department ordered her to the ground, and she complied. She was then placed in handcuffs. While preparing to transfer Ms. Rockey to a patrol vehicle, deputies attempted to adjust her handcuffs. During this process, Ms. Rockey made a second attempt to flee but was quickly apprehended by Deputy Converse and re-secured in handcuffs. When questioned, Ms. Rockey stated she eluded Deputy Converse “for fun.” Ms. Rockey was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail, charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Elude, Reckless Driving, and Escape in the Third Degree. She remains in custody.

Elderly Mistreatment, Powers

CCSO release - Date/Time: May 10, 2025, around 11:49 AM; Case #: S202500709; Classification: Criminal Mistreatment 1, Unlaw use Weapon, Menacing, Poss Meth; Location: D. Ave, Powers; Suspect(s): Dorothy Shaw (69); Summary: Elder Abuse Investigation Leads to Arrest. On May 10, 2025, Sergeant A. Slater arrested Dorothy Shaw, 69, of Powers, following an elder abuse investigation involving a 70-year-old vulnerable adult requiring full-time care at a residence on D. Ave, Powers. On May 8, 2025, Adult Protective Services (A.P.S.) received a report from a caregiver alleging that on April 29, Ms. Shaw had threatened the resident with a 4-inch fixed-blade knife, struck the resident with it, and expressed intent to purchase bullets to harm the resident and others. A welfare check that evening by A.P.S. and Sergeant Clayburn was unsuccessful. On May 9, A.P.S., Aging and People with Disabilities (A.P.D.), and Sheriff’s Office personnel coordinated a response. A conference call confirmed the resident’s need for sustained care and raised concerns about Ms. Shaw’s behavior. The caregiver provided details of the incident, including Ms. Shaw’s possession of a small black revolver. A criminal history check revealed Ms. Shaw’s prior felony convictions. On May 10, deputies executed a search warrant at the residence on D. Ave, seizing the described knife and 15.9 grams of methamphetamine from Ms. Shaw’s purse. Ms. Shaw was arrested and charged with Criminal Mistreatment I, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing, and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. She was transported to the Coos County Jail where she remains in custody. The resident was safely relocated, where A.P.D. arranged for their care. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with A.P.S. and A.P.D., remains committed to protecting vulnerable residents.
