Celebrity chef Brian Malarkey, left, and his brother James Malarkey, right, are teaming up to open The Malarkey, a new steakhouse and seafood grill in Portland. It is the Central Oregon-raised brothers' second Oregon restaurant and first in the Rose City.

Celebrity chef Brian Malarkey has no shortage of origin stories. But for our purposes, the most important might be the night his dad flew down to Southern California to watch his eldest son in a college play.
