Description

The City of Coos Bay has been awarded $1.93 million from the state of Oregon to purchase and renovate the former Belloni Ranch Property, aiming to provide housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.  Funding Details:  The funding, amounting to $1.93 million, is provided by the Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) as part of a broader initiative to enhance shelter capacity in areas with high needs. This financial support is part of Governor Kotek's efforts to address homelessness effectively across the state.  Project Overview:  Location: The funds will be used to purchase and renovate the Belloni Ranch Property, south of Coos Bay.  Housing Units: The project aims to create at least eight units that will be available for people and families experiencing homelessness.  Timeline: Renovation work is expected to continue throughout the year, with the goal of opening the facility in 2026. The city plans to provide supportive services and housing assistance to help individuals secure stable homes in the future.  The City already provides limited housing at the Coalbank Village off Evans Blvd., in South Coos Bay.  From the Coalbank Village website: “Coalbank Village has 24 Pallet Homes available and is designed to provide safe, warm and comfortable housing to those beginning their journey towards a brighter future. Residents share access to a full kitchen area and a bathroom/shower unit as well as a covered recreation area containing comfortable lounging areas and a TV.”  This new initiative reportedly reflects a significant step towards further addressing homelessness in Coos Bay, providing not just shelter but also support for long-term housing stability.
