The Coos County Board of Commissioners has scheduled or will attend the following meetings during the period of March 10, 2025 through March 14, 2025:  Thursday, March 13:  9:00 AM - Work session- Budget; Friday, March 14:  9:00 AM - Work session- Budget.  COMMITTEE MEETINGS:  There are no meetings scheduled this week.   These meetings are open to the public, with the exception of executive session.  Unless otherwise noted, all meetings will take place in the Owen Building large conference room; the Owen Building is located at 201 N. Adams, Coquille.  Regular Board meetings can now be viewed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSBIVF1IsAVmowSokRR2v_A

Officers responded to a reported road rage incident that occurred today around 10:40 a.m., near NE Cornell Road and NE 25th Avenue, where a driver allegedly displayed a firearm and threatened another motorist. After canvassing the area, officers located the suspect vehicle near NE 15th Avenue and NE Sunrise Lane stopped in a residential neighborhood. A passenger from the vehicle attempted to walk away but was detained. The passenger was found to be in possession of a firearm and a large quantity of a controlled substance. While officers were detaining the passenger, the driver fled the scene in the vehicle. The suspect drove through residential neighborhoods in an attempt to evade police, intentionally crashing through a residential fence that borders the wetlands near NE 13th Avenue and NE Maureen Street, killing a dog in the process. With assistance from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office K9 team, the Hillsboro Police K9 team, and the Washington County Remotely Operated Vehicle Team (ROVT) utilizing a drone, officers were able to safely locate and take the driver into custody without further incident. The driver also admitted to having a firearm inside the vehicle, which was later recovered by officers. At this time, the driver is being charged with Animal Abuse 1, Criminal Mischief 1, Felony Elude, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Menacing. The passenger is being charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and drug-related offenses. This investigation remains active, and charges are still being finalized. There is no ongoing danger to the public. We thank the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in bringing this matter to a resolution.
