A new Consumer Product Safety Commission program has pressured hospitals to hand over patients’ identifiable health data to a private company, even for injuries unrelated to consumer products. Democratic lawmakers say the program goes beyond the agency’s role and raises privacy concerns.

A group of Democratic lawmakers is calling for the Trump administration to suspend a new surveillance program it quietly launched to collect the personal and identifiable health data of Americans who visit emergency rooms.
