Oregon rebounded from defeat by going on the road and beating Rutgers, Saturday, 56-10. UO release by: Rob Moseley - PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The Ducks bounced back, and did so in historically prolific fashion. Coming off its first loss of the season, the Oregon football team responded by dominating Rutgers on the road Saturday, 56-10 at SHI Stadium. In four seasons under head coach Dan Lanning, the UO football has yet to lose consecutive games. The No. 8 Ducks (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) finished Saturday's game with 750 total yards, just shy of the program record of 777 set against California in 2015. Oregon ran for 415 yards, surpassing 400 rush yards for the first time since that same game against the Golden Bears. "All week we talked about playing to our standard," Lanning said. "There's some things we want back from that game, but overall I thought our players really attacked that." The Ducks led 42-3 at halftime, by which point Dante Moore was already almost finished with a 15-of-20, 290-yard passing performance with four touchdowns. His last of the first half was the third touchdown already for Noah Whittington, who rushed for 125 yards and two scores, and Kenyon Sadiq caught a pair of touchdown passes in the first half as well. "We wanted to establish the run, and we felt like we could move bodies up front and run through some arm tackles," Lanning said. "And we did that tonight." By halftime, Oregon had a 446-117 advantage in total yards; the Ducks were piling up 13.1 yards per play, while allowing 3.0. They finished the game with nine pass plays longer than 20 yards, and 10 rushes of 13 yards or longer. One week after a loss, the UO football team was making a resounding statement. "We said all week and really today, we're not chasing stats, we're chasing the standard," Lanning said. "And I thought our guys did a good job of that." Oregon's defense Saturday didn't allow a touchdown until late in the fourth quarter, allowing 14 or fewer points for the fifth time in seven games this season. Aaron Flowers had an interception and a forced fumble to help lead the effort, and Blake Purchase had an interception plus a sack. "I feel like we came out here and just attacked our game plan, were ourselves, and then just sustained it," Flowers said. "Came out there full speed, just full effort, and I feel like that showed out." In the loss to Indiana, the UO defense probably did enough to put the Ducks in position to win. On Saturday, Oregon's defense absolutely did so. Saturday's scoring began with a 68-yard touchdown run from Whittington, the longest rush by an Oregon running back since C.J. Verdell's memorable explosion play at Ohio State in 2021. That made it 7-3, and Sadiq made it 14-3 later in the first quarter before he had another athletic touchdown reception early in the second that sparked a 28-point quarter for Oregon. Dakorien Moore caught a touchdown pass for a 28-3 lead, and Whittington scored twice more in the second quarter, once via rush and once via reception. "I'm just thankful," Whittington said. "I'm glad we could go out and dominate today." Freshmen Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill ran for touchdowns in the third quarter, a period in which Oregon rushed nine times for 190 yards. Davison notched his first career 100-yard game, and scored his eighth touchdown of the season. Before the fourth quarter had begun, Dante Moore's day was done, and Sheldon High's Brock Thomas had taken over at quarterback. If the Ducks had been looking to make a statement after their loss to Indiana, it had been made loud and clear. "In football, rent's due every week," Lanning said. "So as great as this one win was, to see us accomplish (playing) to our standard and what we want to be able to do, we've got to come to work next week again." No. 8 Oregon hosts Wisconsin (0-4, 2-5), Saturday, Oct. 25, Autzen Stadium, Eugene, time to be determined.
