UO release - EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens announced on Tuesday that the University and head softball coach Melyssa Lombardi have agreed to a contract extension that will run through the 2030 season. "Oregon softball is one of the elite programs in the country under Missy Lombardi's leadership, and she consistently prioritizes a first-class student-athlete experience," said Mullens. "Her leadership has the program on a tremendous trajectory – competing at the highest level while developing young women who thrive on the field and in the classroom. We're excited about the bright future of Oregon softball under Missy's continued leadership." The Ducks are coming off a Big Ten championship season that saw the program advance to the Women's College World Series for the first time since 2018. Oregon won the second-most games in program history, going 54-10 overall. The Ducks won all eight Big Ten series this season for a 19-3 record in conference play. Oregon was ranked No. 5 in the final NFCA Coaches' Poll. For her efforts, Lombardi was named the 2025 Big Ten Coach of the Year. She is already the second-winningest coach in program history with a 239-116 overall record in seven seasons. "I am extremely grateful to Rob Mullens, Aaron Wasson and the entire University of Oregon administration for their long-term commitment and support of the Oregon softball program," said Lombardi. "It is a privilege to work with the exceptional student-athletes and staff at Oregon and to play in front of the best fans in the country at Jane Sanders Stadium. "When I was hired at Oregon, I said our mission was to compete and win at an elite level while enhancing the student-athlete experience. We remain committed to those goals and to ensuring every aspect of this program makes all Oregon Duck fans proud." During her seven seasons at Oregon, Lombardi has guided Oregon to five NCAA Regional Finals, two NCAA Super Regionals and the WCWS in 2025. She has mentored seven All-Americans, the program's first Gold Glove winner and second Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year (Paige Sinicki, 2024), an NFCA national Catcher of the Year (Terra McGowan, 2023), an NFCA Golden Shoe Award winner (Kai Luschar, 2025), an NFCA Freshman of the Year top three finalist (Rylee McCoy, 2025), a USA Softball Player of the Year top 10 finalist (Lyndsey Grein, 2025) and six Academic All-Americans. Additionally, during Lombardi's tenure, Oregon has produced 34 NFCA All-Region players, 30 all-conference selections, 13 conference all-freshman honorees and 12 league all-defensive players.
