During the week of September 15 - 19, 2025, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and the Lincoln County District Attorney's office participated in the annual 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. Some topics covered during this training were:
- Mental Health First Aid
- Trauma Informed Care
- Crisis de-escalation
- Suicide Prevention
- Substance Use Disorders
- And many more...
Nine team members from the Sheriff's Office were able to attend this very valuable training, and included Corrections Deputy Cameron Davis, Corrections Deputy Grace Paranto, Corrections Deputy Gary Ward, Corrections Deputy Isiah Opperud, Patrol Deputy Casey Elfstrom, Patrol Deputy Travis Iverson, Patrol Deputy Matthew Hegerberg, Patrol Deputy Bailee Etheridge and Patrol Deputy Garrett Brawdy. Joining from the District Attorney's Office was Deflection Coordinator Shannon Heisler.
Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) are designed to improve the outcomes of encounters between law enforcement and individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. The CIT model was first developed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1988 and has since spread across the United States and Internationally. The program aims to divert individuals in crisis from the criminal justice system to appropriate mental health services, thereby reducing stigma and improving community safety.
