Actors portraying La Muerte (Death), El Gallo (The Rooster), El Gato (The Cat) and La Pata (The Duck) wear bright puppet headpieces during “¡Alebrijes!”Yosmel López Ortiz holds a puppet of Pedro Linares, the Mexican artist behind alebrijes, during Milagro Theatre’s Día de los Muertos show “¡Alebrijes!”A handmade shadow puppet from “¡Alebrijes!” brings Mexican folklore to life through light, color and movement.Under blacklight, the cast of “¡Alebrijes!” lights up the stage as La Muerte, El Gallo, El Gato and La Pata — characters inspired by Mexican folklore and reimagined through puppetry.A doll puppet from a past Milagro show,A towering puppet of La Muerte (Death) takes the stage in Milagro’s “¡Alebrijes!”Each puppet in “¡Alebrijes!” was handmade by Yosmel López Ortiz, who honed his puppetry craft over many years in Cuba before joining Milagro Theatre.
