Oregon Employment Dept. release - Coos County Payroll Employment Rises Over the Year Coos County total payroll employment fell by 340 jobs in January, with the largest declines due to seasonally typical losses in local government education (-140), and retail trade (-50). Other industries losing jobs were transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-40); construction (-30); professional and business services (-30); and private education and health services (-30). Government employment slipped by 140 jobs in January, largely due to a decline of 140 jobs in local government education. Since January 2025 Coos County payroll employment rose by 160 jobs, a gain of 0.7%. Employment gains occurred in private education and health services (+120); leisure and hospitality (+50); manufacturing (+50); and construction (+40). Losses were estimated in professional and business services (-120); mining and logging (-30); and information (-20). Government employment fell by 10 jobs. Local government excluding education and tribal employment fell by 60 jobs while Indian tribal local government employment rose by 30 jobs over the year. Federal (+20) and state government (+10) both added jobs. Curry County payroll employment fell by 100 jobs in January, mostly due to seasonally typical declines of 30 jobs in leisure and hospitality and 20 jobs in construction. Other sectors showed little job movement. Over the past year Curry County payroll employment slipped by 90 jobs, a loss of 1.4%. Industries shedding jobs over the year were retail trade (-60); leisure and hospitality (-60); professional and business services (-40); and financial activities (-40). Manufacturing employment rose by 60 over the year. Government added 40 jobs over the year with local government (+20), federal (+10), and state government (+10) all up slightly.

Curry Co.: Civilian Labor Force: Jan. 2026 - 8,147; Dec. 2025 - 8,141; Jan. 2-25 - 8,260. Unemployed: Jan. 2026 - 616; Dec. 2025 - 540; Jan. 2025 - 550. Unemployed Rate: Jan. 2026 - 7.6% (SA 6.7%); Dec. 2025 - 6.6% (SA 6.9%). Jan. 2025 - 6.7% (SA 5.6%).
