Description

Joseph David Emerson, right, was sentenced Monday in federal court for time served for interfering with a flight crew in 2023 when he moved to cut the engines of a passenger jet over Oregon. He was catching a ride home in the jump seat of the cockpit of the Horizon Air flight and said he was on hallucinogenic mushrooms.

A federal judge on Monday spared former Alaska Airlines pilot Joseph D. Emerson from prison time, saying the swift loss of his career for nearly cutting off a plane’s engines while flying off-duty was sufficient punishment despite his “shockingly bad decisions.”
