EUGENE, Ore. — After a standout season-opening weekend, Oregon opposite Alanah Clemente is the Big Ten Freshman of the Week as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. The Ducks play at home twice this week, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 3, against Portland. First serve is 6 p.m. PT inside Matthew Knight Arena. Clemente accounted for 5.67 points per set, 4.83 kills per set and 1.67 blocks per set while hitting .684 (29-3-38) during Oregon's 3-0 weekend at the EVEN Hotel Bobcat Invite in Bozeman, Mont. In the first match of the year, she had 11 kills (.667 hitting pct.) in just two sets of the Ducks' four-set win against South Dakota. The Mission Hills, Calif., native had a second double-digit performance of the weekend with 13 kills in Sunday's sweep of host Montana State. She also hit .647 in the match and added six blocks. Clemente provided a spark off the bench with five kills and a pair of blocks in the fourth set against Prairie View A&M. Clemente is one of three Oregon players ranked among the top 15 for kills per set in the Big Ten. She is joined by junior Valentina Vaulet (13th, 3.64 k/s) and fellow freshman Maria Tabacuks (15th, 3.27 k/s). In Monday's release of the AVCA top 25, Oregon continues to receive votes in the coach’s poll.
