🐭 From Fur to Feast – Nutria History Bites 📜
Back by popular demand! Join us for March’s History Bites as Mike Martin dives into the fascinating history of nutria ranching in the U.S., with a special focus on Albany. These large, semi-aquatic rodents were introduced to Oregon in the 1930s for their fur and even promoted as a food source. However, after escaping or being released, they quickly became an invasive species, impacting local wetlands and agriculture.
Learn how nutria shaped the region’s history while enjoying light refreshments. History Bites is free to attend, and museum exhibits are always free for members.
