Description

Homelessness in Oregon rose by 35% between 2023 and 2025, according to a new report released by Portland State University. In Portland, the mayor has been focused on increasing the number of overnight only shelter beds, including at the old St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in downtown Portland.

Portland State University on Thursday released the statewide homelessness numbers from the January 2025 biannual single-night census, data that would normally be released by the federal government as part of a national report. Under the Trump administration, national numbers have been delayed and it is unclear if or when they will be published.
