MAY 5, 2026, PROCLAMATIONS

At its May 5, 2026, meeting, the Coos Bay City Council unanimously approved two proclamations recognizing Building Safety Month and Wildfire Awareness Month, highlighting the community’s shared commitment to safety, preparedness, and resilience.

Building Safety Month

May has officially been proclaimed Building Safety Month in Coos Bay. This year’s theme, “Built to Last,” recognizes the important work of building officials, fire prevention staff, engineers, architects, contractors, and others who help ensure our homes, businesses, and public buildings are safe and resilient. The proclamation also serves as a reminder of how modern building codes and strong infrastructure help protect our community every day — especially during emergencies and natural disasters.

Wildfire Awareness Month

The Council also proclaimed May as Wildfire Awareness Month, encouraging residents to take simple but meaningful steps to prepare for wildfire season. The proclamation recognizes the work of the Coos Bay Fire Department and local and state partners who help educate the public on wildfire prevention and preparedness. Residents are encouraged to create defensible space around their homes, safely manage yard debris, and make evacuation plans to help reduce wildfire risk and keep neighborhoods safe.
