Description

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office does not have a dedicated traffic team or deputy assigned to DUI enforcement due to lack of funding. However, our deputies are committed to the safety of our community, and that includes our roadways.  Please consider others if you choose to drink or use drugs:  Plan your safe ride home ahead of time; If you drink or use drugs, do not drive for any reason; If you know someone has been drinking or using drugs, don't let them drive; If you host a party with alcohol, make sure all guests leave with a sober driver; And please, always wear your seatbelt!  Over the weekend, deputies arrested several drivers for DUII. Each of these cases could have ended tragically, as our deputies often see out on our roads.  Please drive safe this fall!  On October 8th, deputies responded to a report of a driver who appeared impaired and was inhaling nitrous oxide - known as “whippets” - while in the drive through of a business in Veneta. Deputies located the vehicle nearby and contacted the driver, Martin Abram Larson, 41, of Cheshire. After additional investigation, Larson was arrested for DUII.  On October 10th, just before midnight, a deputy observed an SUV driving poorly on Beltline Highway near Coburg Road in Eugene. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Elder Youany Roblerovalasquez, 37, of Eugene. The deputy observed signs Roblerovalasquez was impaired. After additional investigation, Roblerovalasquez was arrested for DUII.  On October 11th at about 7 p.m., a deputy observed a vehicle driving poorly on Highway 99 near Roosevelt Boulevard, Eugene. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Checklin Jonathan Vaifale, 55, of Eugene. The deputy observed signs Vaifale was impaired. After additional investigation, Vaifale was arrested for DUII.  On October 12th, just after midnight, a deputy observed a vehicle driving poorly on Beltline Highway near River Road, Eugene. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Seth John Fallenstein, 47, of Springfield. The deputy observed signs Fallenstein was impaired, and after additional investigation, Fallenstein was arrested for DUII.
