Oregon's U.S. District Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai said his concerns about the government's motives were heightened by a letter that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi sent to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Saturday demanding the same voter lists from his state. The letter was sent on the same day a federal officer shot and killed a man in Minneapolis, the second fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen this month by federal officers.

A judge on Monday dismissed the federal government’s attempt to obtain Oregon’s unredacted voter rolls, saying he had “great concerns” about the Trump administration’s motives to access the personal information.
