Description

Salem-Keizer School District Superintendent Andrea Castañeda has lunch with students from Swegle Elementary School in Salem. She is one of a number of superintendents from around Oregon pushing for a re-evaluation of how the state determines how many students in poverty attend each district when calculating the state funding formula. Gov. Tina Kotek said this week that she is open to re-examining the metrics.

Gov. Tina Kotek said Thursday that she believes the state should reevaluate how it accounts for student poverty levels in the complicated, decades-old funding formula used to determine how much state money each of Oregon’s 197 school districts receives every year.
