A wildfire near Rowena in the Columbia Gorge burned dozens of homes in early June, marking an early start to Oregon's 2025 wildfire season.

Two Democratic lawmakers unveiled a proposal Tuesday to pay for wildfire mitigation using a tax on oral nicotine products and some of the interest on Oregon’s rainy day savings account.
