Neighbors said Portland police had ordered the people inside this house on Southeast 124th Avenue to come out Monday, May 6, 2024. Police said they were searching a warrant in the neighborhood when a man who was on the property, Richard Perez, 45, shot at them. They shot back, striking Perez. He died.

The man who died following a shootout with police in Southeast Portland this week was facing state and federal criminal charges at the time of his death, records show.
