A preschool security guard in Southwest Portland shot and injured a man around 11:50 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, police said. A statement from the preschool said he acted in self-defense. The wounded man was found lying on the pavement next to the green car pictured here in the background.

The man shot and wounded by a preschool security guard in Southwest Portland Thursday remains in critical condition, police said.
