Description

In this undated photo provided by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, search and rescue personnel search for a missing mountain biker near Mount Hood, Ore.

A missing mountain biker, who had been the subject of a six-day search and rescue mission in Mount Hood National Forest, appeared at a neighbor’s house in Gresham, Oregon, “tired, cold, dirty, and worn out.”

Ralph Sawyer, 52, had reportedly located his car and driven it back to his home in Gresham Thursday. Gresham police responded and transported Sawyer, who appeared uninjured, to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

Sawyer had left his home on July 11 for a mountain biking trip near Mount Hood. He was expected home later that evening but never showed up. When Sawyer’s family reported him missing, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office launched a search-and-rescue mission.

Authorities located Sawyer’s vehicle and cellphone shortly after midnight on July 12 on East Still Creek Road. Both the Clackamas and Hood River County Sheriff’s offices launched additional resources throughout the search including K9 units, ATVs, drones and a search plane in addition to 70 search-and-rescue personnel to find Sawyer.

Other search teams included those from the Clackamas County Search and Rescue, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Hood River Crag Rats, Portland Mountain Rescue, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Posse and more.

No other details on what happened to Sawyer have been released. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office says they will release updates when available.
