Description

A sign along the slough of the Columbia River warns residents and their pets to avoid all sloughs, dikes and drainage ditches due to potential contamination with chemicals from the Longview mill implosion. Tests on the ditch network water and in the river showed its pH levels were in the normal range, state officials said on Monday.

In the aftermath of the Longview mill disasters that killed 11 workers and spilled hundreds of gallons of a toxic chemical, environmental crews have collected about 2,000 dead fish from the ditch systems near the mill site.
