Children Invited to Explore Plant and Worm Science at the North Bend Public Library
The North Bend Public Library and OSU Extension's 4-H Youth Development are teaming up this summer to offer two hands-on STEAM programs designed to help children explore the natural world through science, observation, and creativity. The first program, Plant Needs, will take place on Wednesday, June 17 from 10:30 AM–12:00 PM. Children will learn about phototropism, the way plants respond and grow toward light, while exploring what plants need to survive. They will also create a pipe-cleaner dragonfly craft to take home. The second program, Wiggly Worms, will be held on Wednesday, June 24 from 2:00–4:00 PM. During this interactive session, children will explore the fascinating world of worms by learning about worm behavior, their benefits, and their anatomy. They will also experiment with vermiculture, the practice of using worms to compost. Both programs are geared toward children ages 8–12. Younger children are welcome to attend; however, adult assistance and supervision are recommended for younger participants. These programs are free and open to the public.
