Newport PD release - We wanted to offer a new post with a clean update for everyone:  - The first call of a fire at Pacific Seafood came in at 8:51 am. The fire is still active at the time of this posting.  - The Bayfront remains closed. We will update our community as to when it is opened.  - There have been no reported civilian injuries. One firefighter has been evaluated and treated for exhaustion.  Approximately 30-40 individuals were in the building at the time of the fire and all were accounted for by Pacific Seafood.  - The risk of an ammonia leak or spill has been mitigated at this time thanks to the work of the fire crews.  - Currently we have not seen any impacts to marine life.  - While small traces of ammonia were present in the smoke early this morning, they were at non-harmful levels. Evacuation was precautionary at the risk of a larger leak or spill.  - There is still smoke in Newport, so we recommend using a mask if you must be outside for any purpose to help mitigate exposure.  - Approximately 60 firefighters and 15 apparatus have been working at the scene.  - Newport Fire has been assisted by Depoe Bay, Siletz, Seal Rock, Central Oregon Coast Fire, Toledo, North Lincoln, Corvallis, Philomath, Linn Benton County Hazmat, and the Oregon State Fire Marshall on the fire. The US Coast Guard, Newport Police, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Lincoln County Emergency Management, Pac West Ambulance, and Newport Public Works have assisted with emergency response and information.  Thank you to our community on your assistance AND offers of help to evacuees and impacted, especially Sam Case Elementary and Atonement Lutheran Church. Thank you to all who responded to the fire and worked to keep our community safe. We also offer our support to Pacific Seafood, a long-time community partner and staple here in Newport. We will continue to provide updates on this channel.
