Description

Josefina Muralles of North Miami, Florida, has health insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act marketplace. Muralles is one of millions of consumers whose income qualifies them for a subsidy that reduces monthly premiums. But next year, Muralles says, she may not be able to afford her premiums if enhanced subsidies approved in 2021's American Rescue Plan Act and extended in 2022 under the Inflation Reduction Act expire as scheduled at the end of the year. Congress can extend the enhanced subsidies but has yet to do so. (Daniel Chang/KFF Health News)

MIAMI — Josefina Muralles works a part-time overnight shift as a receptionist at a Miami Beach condominium so that during the day she can care for her three kids, her aging mother, and her brother, who is paralyzed.
