Description

Dr. Luiz Bertassoni, head of OHSU's Knight Cancer Precision Biofabrication Hub and professor of oncological sciences, bioengineering and dentistry, developed a process to engineer human tissues in the lab to better understand functions in the human body. Bertassoni and Dr. Alexander Davies, an assistant professor of oncological sciences, both recently landed new NIH grants to use lab-engineered human tissues to study how cancer spreads in the body.

Oregon Health & Science University is getting a major boost in its effort to better understand and eventually treat some of the most aggressive cancers with $6 million to research “organs-on-chips” – tiny, lab-built systems that mimic how human tissues function and how the disease spreads.
