Description

On December 2nd at 5:15, I visited the Corvallis After 5 Club. They are known for hosting the Corvallis Half Marathon and 5K each year. It’s an amazing event! Last year, they netted $40,000 – and since they started in 2011, they’ve raised over $400,000! The proceeds let the club support health and community in Corvallis, and make financial contributions to a wide array of local nonprofits. Bob Hazelton organizes it, and Scott Thibert finds sponsors. Everyone helps.
When it came time for happy bucks, I mentioned that I didn’t have cash. Treasurer Zach Mansee, not one to miss a beat, offered to take Zelle, Venmo, Square! The Club displayed its meeting agenda, and Past President, Jennifer Thibert, updated it with discussions and decisions in real time. Great idea!
Club President, Angie Gallager, puts a lot of energy into her leadership! I talked to a new member, Crystal Well, who shared how and why she joined Rotary. She said it was Jane Childers’ enthusiastic ask. Such a simple thing – we can all remind ourselves of this effective technique! Just Ask! Jane is one of their Rock Stars – she coordinated their first annual Beard & Mustache Contest this year! What fun!!
