Description

On July 15 & 16th, my first club visit as District Governor took me to Lakeview – 245 miles from my home base. Seven of the Board members met me for a social dinner at the Neon Cowboy Roadhouse. (Best ribeye ever!)
I knew that their club President, Angie Deiter, is the youngest in the District, but I learned that their President-Elect, Landon Dybdal, is a young professional too. They feel support from the membership, and they don’t hear, “we’ve always done it this way.”
Before the noon meeting, they showed me the progress of their all-wheel skate park project – it’s suitable for everything from skateboards and bicycles to wheelchairs. The club leveraged its initial $50,000 investment into $500,000 to build it! It’s scheduled to open in September.
Their lunch meeting was catered with two meal choices. They had potential members, and a visitor or two attended. Their traditional meeting started with the ringing of the bell, a song, and a prayer. After some business and announcements, Membership Chair Mike McGowen quizzed the group on the names of famous Rotarians. Then I spoke speak on the “why” of Rotary, attracting and engaging members, and District leadership opportunities.
