Only 300 people can tour these century-old Mount Hood log cabins in August. Here’s how to get tickets before they sell out

Five vintage log cabins and a church built almost entirely from local timber and stone will be open to ticket holders Aug. 8 during the 21st Mount Hood Steiner Cabins Tour. Dana Kuhn and Josh Townsley have furnished their cabin, named Barlow Bend, with woven wool rugs and decor from the same era, including an antique console radio and a crank phone. Tickets are $60 each and can only be purchased by museum members. Non-members can add the $30 membership when buying tickets at mthoodmuseum.org. Each year, the tour features a different selection of the hand-hewn, historic structures, shaped for function and flair nearly a century ago by the Steiner family of carpenters and stonemasons. The Oregon Rustic-style cabins were made by Henry and Mollie Steiner and their 13 children without electricity or power tools. The only store-bought materials were windows, sinks, bathtubs and hinges. The 1937 Steiner Log Church on Mount Hood is a tourist destination and community space in Welches. The former St. John Catholic Church is a stop on the annual Mt. Hood Steiner cabin tour.
