Dr. Tesha Waggoner, pictured at the end of her workday examining her son Bruce’s teeth, sees many children covered by Medicaid at her Portland practice. Their labradoodle, C.J., often spends time in the office, bringing comfort to young patients.

Dr. Tesha Waggoner’s pediatric dental office in southwest Portland is somewhat of a rarity in Oregon: a dentist-owned practice that accepts Medicaid for a large share of patients.
