Description

This year's record low snowpack was obvious from the Cascade chairlift at Mt. Hood Meadows on Jan. 25, 2026. Typically, there are no small trees or rocks visible at this elevation — 7,000 feet — in midwinter.

Oregon’s already diminished snowpack is disappearing weeks earlier than normal, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture hydrologist Matt Warbritton.
