Woodworker Jennifer Foran uses wood burning tools and water-based wood stains that enhance natural grain, and acrylic paint finishing for her art shown at the 45th Wild Arts Festival.Photographer Dan Elster uses traditional photography techniques for 95% of his work and has recently begun experimenting with sophisticated motion-detecting techniques to photograph rare and strictly nocturnal species. He photographs only wild animals (no captive or staged subjects).Glass artist Johnathon Tardif uses molten glass layered with colors and textures, subjected to water submersion at peak heat to create surface shattering effects, resulting in unique vessels and sculptures.Nancy Yturriaga Adams is a clay artist who created this wheel-thrown acorn.Christopher Moench creates vessels that are fired to cone 6 (2,234 f.) in an electric kiln, then attached to a high-quality metal turntable allowing it to be spun easily.Erin Linton is a 2D mixed media artist who uses a traditional canvas she first paints with India inks then applies a thin layer of archival bookbinding glue and adheres a layer of pH-treated up-cycled teabags before painting the portrait on top with gouache.Kyoko Niikuni is a fiber artist who uses a collage technique painted with Washi paper.Woodworker Shailer Tuell uses a variety of woods often native to the Pacific Northwest, some of which is reclaimed or salvaged.Digital artist Ian Petersen uses precise GIS mapping and digital drawing he calls “cARTography.”Shino Mikami creates fiber arts using hand screen-printing on soft organic cotton, hemp, bamboo and eco-friendly materials,Janel Pahl is a 2D mixed media artist who uses encaustic (beeswax/damar tree resin) and layers of wax medium applied and infused with a blowtorch. People will be able to flit about and chirp with artists and authors at the 45th Wild Arts Festival, a popular Bird Alliance of Oregon fundraiser happening Dec. 6-7 in Hillsboro.
