Description

Mario Torres is a retired doctor from Miami whose former marriage brought him to Portland. When Torres had nowhere to go after his most recent hospital discharge, an outreach worker helped him get into Bybee Lakes Hope Center. “If not for Bybee, I’d probably be dead,” he said.

Over the past five years, Portland and Multnomah County leaders have poured millions of dollars into expanding the area’s homeless shelter system, creating more than 2,300 new beds in an effort to quickly move people off the streets.
